Community Involvement
Liz was a key team player in the successful $3,000,000 (three million dollars) grant received from the Ministry of Long Term Health to build a health care centre in Scarborough, namely TABIU.
Presently she is a member of the steering committee for the Heart & Stroke Foundation – Black Leadership Health Summits. She lead as the media sponsor for the Canadian Diabetic Association 1st Annual Black Health Expo. In 2009, she organized with a grant from Trillium Gift of Life a ‘Health Expo’ at the International Drum Festival. She syndicate articles from HK magazine are in community newspapers such as Share Newspapers, Bulgaria Flame newspapers and Immigration Post.
Liz has had several public speaking roles on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto and was a big sister in their programs for over 9 years.
Liz was an active member of the Congress of Black Women of Canada, and volunteers her time to procure funding and sponsorship for Camp Jumoke (a summer camp for children who have Sickle Cell disease)
Liz is an advocate in support of organ donation.
Personal Profile
She was born in Trinidad and grew up amongst the Toronto communities, under the watchful eyes of those who are now the elders in the Black and Caribbean community.
Career Profile
She held the position of Funding Officer for Wellesley Institute, Exhibits Manager for the Canadian Restaurant and Food-Services Association, and worked on the Toronto Stock Exchange floor also; she owed and operated Classic Day Spa. She produced and hosted Singles Talk on Rogers Cable Television and is presently producing a monthly publication Healthy Knowledge (HK) magazine since 2008.
In 2009 Liz received the Health Promotion award from the African Canadian Women Achievement Awards.
In 2009 Liz was given Certification of Recognition from the National Ethnic Media & Press Council.
In 2010, Liz accepts an award from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, for Editor/Publisher for ‘Excellent Concept and Visual Presentation” of Healthy Knowledge magazine.
Liz was the ‘red carpet host’ at the Scotia Caribana Gala 2010.
Caribana
CARIBANA
Liz has involved HK magazine in the ‘hub’ of Caribbean carnivals in Ontario over the past five years. She produced a Caribana supplement guide ’08 that was distribute at four major hotels in downtown Toronto for their guest rooms. She is a supporter of the artists from Roots of Rhythm – Caribana Art Exhibit at the ROM, and many of their works were displayed in HK magazine. Last year she was the red carpet hostess at the Scotia Caribana Gala.
